L-Phenylalanyl-D-valyl-L-valyl-D-tyrosinamide is a high purity and potent activator of ion channels. It binds to the ligand binding site of the receptor, eliciting a conformational change that causes channel opening. LPAVLT has been shown to induce calcium influx by activating voltage gated calcium channels and to activate potassium channels. This drug is also an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase, which may account for its antihypertensive effects.
