Panobinostat

Description:
Panobinostat is a hydroxamic acid derivative and a potent pan-inhibitor of histone deacetylases (HDACs), which play a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression through chromatin remodeling. It is primarily utilized in the treatment of multiple myeloma, particularly in patients who have received prior therapies. Panobinostat exhibits a unique mechanism of action by inducing hyperacetylation of histones and non-histone proteins, leading to the activation of tumor suppressor genes and the inhibition of oncogenes. This compound is typically administered in combination with other agents, such as proteasome inhibitors, to enhance its therapeutic efficacy. In terms of its physical properties, panobinostat is a white to off-white solid, soluble in organic solvents, and has a relatively low molecular weight. Its pharmacokinetics involve extensive metabolism, primarily via the liver, and it is excreted through both urine and feces. As with many HDAC inhibitors, panobinostat can have side effects, including gastrointestinal disturbances and hematological toxicities, necessitating careful monitoring during treatment.
