CAS 4272-77-9
:Dansyl acid
Description:
Dansyl acid, with the CAS number 4272-77-9, is a sulfonamide derivative known for its fluorescent properties, making it valuable in biochemical and analytical applications. It features a dansyl group, which is a 5-dimethylaminonaphthalene-1-sulfonyl moiety, contributing to its strong fluorescence. This compound is typically used as a labeling agent for amino acids and proteins, facilitating their detection and quantification in various assays. Dansyl acid is soluble in organic solvents such as methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide, but its solubility in water is limited. The compound exhibits a characteristic absorption and emission spectrum, which is essential for fluorescence-based techniques. Additionally, it can participate in various chemical reactions, including coupling with amines to form stable sulfonamide bonds. Due to its unique properties, dansyl acid is widely utilized in research fields such as biochemistry, molecular biology, and analytical chemistry, particularly in studies involving protein structure and function.

CAS:
Dansyl acid is a fatty acid that can be used as a fluorescent probe to study the binding of amines to receptors in human serum. Dansyl acid binds to amines by forming a covalent bond. It has been shown that the binding constants of dansyl acid are dependent on the pH, chloride concentration, and nitrogen atom content. The reaction mechanism of dansyl acid is proposed to involve an initial protonation step followed by nucleophilic attack. This process leads to a resonance-stabilized carbenium ion intermediate with two free electrons, which then quickly reacts with chloride ions or hydrochloric acid to form dansyl chloride or benzenesulfonic acid, respectively.
Formula:C12H13NO3SPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:251.3 g/molDansyl Acid
