CAS 79-31-2
:Isobutyric acid
Description:
Isobutyric acid, also known as 2-methylpropanoic acid, is a branched-chain carboxylic acid characterized by its distinctive structure, which includes a carboxyl group (-COOH) attached to a carbon chain with a methyl group. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, reminiscent of rancid butter. Isobutyric acid is soluble in water and organic solvents, making it versatile in various applications. Its molecular formula is C4H8O2, and it has a relatively low boiling point compared to other carboxylic acids. This compound is used in the production of esters for flavoring and fragrance, as well as in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Isobutyric acid can also be produced through fermentation processes, highlighting its relevance in biochemistry. Additionally, it exhibits mild acidity, with a pKa value that allows it to participate in various chemical reactions, including esterification and amidation. Safety precautions are necessary when handling isobutyric acid, as it can cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

CAS:
Isobutyric acid is a short-chain carboxylic acid that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of congestive heart failure. Isobutyric acid binds to the dinucleotide phosphate and is then hydrolyzed by glycol ethers to release isobutyric acid, which can induce vasodilation. The surface methodology used in this study revealed that Isobutyric acid inhibits the polymerase chain reaction activity of human DNA. This inhibition may be due to its structural similarity with mycobacterial sesquiterpene lactones, which have been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in human cells. Isobutyric acid also has antibacterial properties, and has been shown to have an activity index of 0.5 against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates and erythromycin-resistant Mycobacterium avium complex isolates.
Formula:C4H8O2Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Colorless Clear LiquidMolecular weight:88.11 g/molRef: 3D-FI46255
