Benzaldehyd, mit der CAS-Nummer 100-52-7, ist ein aromatisches Aldehyd, das durch seinen charakteristischen Mandelgeruch gekennzeichnet ist. Es hat die chemische Formel C7H6O und weist einen Benzolring auf, der an eine Formylgruppe (-CHO) gebunden ist. Diese farblose Flüssigkeit ist leicht in Wasser löslich, aber hochlöslich in organischen Lösungsmitteln wie Ethanol und Ether. Benzaldehyd ist bekannt für seine Verwendung als Aromastoff und Duftstoff in Lebensmitteln und Kosmetika sowie in der Synthese verschiedener organischer Verbindungen, einschließlich Farbstoffen und Arzneimitteln.
