4-Chloro-3-nitrobenzenethiol (4CNBT) is a micropet that is used as a radiotracer to measure the uptake of serotonin in the brain. This compound has been shown to bind to the serotonin transporter, which is responsible for reuptake of serotonin from the synapse. The radiolabeled 4CNBT can be used for positron emission tomography (PET) scanning and postinjection autoradiography. 4CNBT has also been used as a ligand in pharmacological studies on serotonin transporters.
