Interferes with O-GlcNAc cycling and leads to the accumulation of O-GlcNAcylated proteins. Thiamet G elicits neuroprotective effects by modulating microglia/macrophages and inhibiting hyperphosphorylation of the microtubule-associated protein tau in models of stroke and Alzheimer’s disease.
