This binding inhibits the enzyme's activity and prevents the conversion of nitrite to nitric oxide. 4'-Nitroacetanilide is stable in aqueous solution, which makes it suitable for intravenous administration. It is also used as a precursor for other substances with antibiotic properties. The molecular weight of 4'-Nitroacetanilide is 298 grams per mole and its chemical formula is C6H4NO2. This compound has been shown to be effective against group P2 enzymes, such as those found in Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.
