Beschreibung:

Die periodische Säure, mit der chemischen Formel H5IO6 und der CAS-Nummer 10450-60-9, ist ein starkes Oxidationsmittel, das hauptsächlich in der organischen Chemie zur Spaltung von Glykolen und zur Oxidation verschiedener organischer Verbindungen verwendet wird. Sie gehört zur Familie der Iod-Oxo-Säuren und ist durch ihren hohen Oxidationszustand von Iod, der +7 beträgt, gekennzeichnet. Die periodische Säure tritt typischerweise in ihrer Dihydratform auf, die ein weißes kristallines Feststoff ist und in Wasser löslich ist. Sie zeigt starke saure Eigenschaften und kann verschiedene Salze bilden, die als Periodate bekannt sind, wenn sie mit Basen reagiert. Periodic acid is a natural product that has been used as an antimicrobial agent for more than 100 years.
