CAS:12-Hydroxyoctadecanoic acid is a fatty acid that is derived from 12-hydroxyoctadecenoic acid, which is an unsaturated fatty acid. It has been shown to have a high degree of hydrogen bonding and is the most hydrophobic of all fatty acids. The chemical structure consists of one hydroxyl group, one carboxylic acid group, and one acylation reaction. 12-Hydroxyoctadecanoic acid also contains phosphorus pentoxide, which has two hydroxyl groups and four oxygen atoms. The compound is an ester link between the carboxylic acid group and the alcohol group with an inorganic acid such as sodium carbonate acting as a catalyst for the reaction. This compound can be synthesized by reacting two molecules of sodium carbonate with hydrogen bromide in water to produce hydrogen bromide gas (HBr) and sodium bromide (NaBr).
