(9Z)-Hexadec-9-enamide is an acetate extract of a healthy plant that is rich in protein and fatty acids. The extract was shown to have no effect on the glucose level of non-diabetic women. It has been reported to inhibit the activity of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and stimulate production of anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-10 and IL-1Ra, which may be beneficial in preventing atherosclerosis. The coating material on the surface of medical devices can be made from this extract. This extract also has been used for mass spectrometric detection of fatty acids in food products.
