5-Amino-2-chloropyridine-4-carbaldehyde is a virus inhibitor that binds to the active site of the lipid kinase, which is an enzyme important in the synthesis of lipids. It inhibits the production of viruses by preventing their replication and has shown potent antiviral activity against hepatitis C virus (HCV) in vitro. 5-Amino-2-chloropyridine-4-carbaldehyde prevents HCV from binding to reticulocytes and blocks viral entry into cells. This molecule also potently inhibits cellular endoplasmic reticulum protein synthesis and protein synthesis in Huh 7 cells.
