3-Bromo-1-ethylpyrrolidin-2-one is an enantiomeric, immobilized lipase that is selective for the hydrolysis of cephalosporins. Unlike other immobilized lipases, this enzyme does not require a solvent or detergent to solubilize the substrate and allow it to react with the enzyme. The immobilization of 3-bromo-1-ethylpyrrolidin-2-one onto silica gel allows for the enantioselective synthesis of cephalosporins. This process is chemoenzymatic and is carried out without organic solvents, which increases its safety and environmental friendliness.
