CAS:1,5-Pentanediol is a reaction product of fatty acid and glycol ether. It is used as an absorption enhancer in topical drug delivery. The hydroxyl group on the molecule reacts with the methyl ethyl group to form an intramolecular hydrogen bond. This affects the transport properties of 1,5-pentanediol. The carbonyl group is also important in forming a coordination complex with boric acid or boron nitride, which can be used to remove water vapor from skin creams to prevent them from becoming sticky.
