4-Dimethylaminopyridin (DMAP) ist eine vielseitige organische Verbindung, die häufig als Katalysator in verschiedenen chemischen Reaktionen, insbesondere in Acylierungs- und Veresterungsprozessen, verwendet wird. Es weist einen Pyridinring auf, der an der Position 4 mit zwei Dimethylamino-Gruppen substituiert ist, was seine Nucleophilität erhöht und es zu einem effektiven Katalysator zur Aktivierung von Elektrophilen macht. DMAP ist bei Raumtemperatur ein farbloser bis blassgelber Feststoff mit einem charakteristischen aminähnlichen Geruch. Es ist in polaren organischen Lösungsmitteln wie Aceton, Ethanol und Dichlormethan löslich, hat jedoch eine begrenzte Löslichkeit in Wasser. DMAP ist bekannt für seine Fähigkeit, Reaktionen unter milden Bedingungen zu erleichtern, was es zu einem wertvollen Reagenz in der organischen Synthese macht.
