Mycophenolatmofetil (MMF) ist ein immunsuppressives Mittel, das hauptsächlich zur Verhinderung der Organabstoßung bei Transplantationspatienten und zur Behandlung von Autoimmunerkrankungen eingesetzt wird. Es handelt sich um ein Prodrug, das im Körper in Mycophenolsäure umgewandelt wird, die das Enzym Inosinmonophosphat-Dehydrogenase (IMPDH) hemmt. Diese Hemmung wirkt selektiv auf Lymphozyten und unterdrückt somit die Proliferation von T- und B-Zellen und reduziert die Immunantwort. MMF wird typischerweise oral verabreicht und zeichnet sich durch seine moderate Löslichkeit in Wasser und höhere Löslichkeit in organischen Lösungsmitteln aus. Die Substanz hat eine chemische Formel, die ihre komplexe Struktur widerspiegelt, die eine Morpholin-Gruppe und eine Carbonsäuregruppe umfasst. Ihre Pharmakokinetik umfasst eine schnelle Absorption, wobei die maximalen Plasmakonzentrationen innerhalb weniger Stunden nach der Verabreichung auftreten.
