MK-8353 is a novel, potent and selective inhibitor of the mek1/2 enzyme. It is active in vitro against a variety of human cancer cell lines, including metastatic colorectal cancer cells that are resistant to other tyrosine kinase inhibitors. MK-8353 has been found to inhibit tumor growth in vivo by inhibiting the phosphorylation of mek1/2 and its downstream signaling pathways. The compound also inhibited mutant melanoma growth in vivo and suppressed the proliferation of cervical cancer cells in vitro. MK-8353 is currently being evaluated for use as a potential anticancer drug candidate.
