5,6-Dimethoxy-N,N-dipropyl-2-indanamine (2Z)-2-butenedioate is a neurotrophic compound that has been shown to regulate the expression of dopamine D3 receptors in wild-type mice. Injection of 2Z into the striatum of wild-type mice resulted in an increase in dopamine receptor density and a decrease in dopamine receptor sensitivity. This drug also increased thigmotaxis behavior, which is indicative of increased motor activity and increased exploration. The regulation of this neurotrophic compound may be mediated by brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and dopamine D3 receptors.
