Blebbistatin is a peptide that inhibits the activity of myosin II, an important protein involved in muscle contraction. It is structurally similar to blebbistatin o-benzoate, but contains a different side chain. Blebbistatin binds to the ATPase site on myosin II and prevents it from binding to actin, preventing muscle contraction. Blebbistatin is used as a research tool for studying protein interactions and has been shown to be an activator of some ion channels.
