Beschreibung:
Natriummethoxid, mit der CAS-Nummer 124-41-4, ist eine organische Verbindung, die als starke Base und Nucleophil in verschiedenen chemischen Reaktionen dient. Es ist das Natriumsalz von Methanol und wird typischerweise als weißer bis hellgelber Feststoff oder als Lösung in Methanol angetroffen. Natriummethoxid ist hochgradig in polaren Lösungsmitteln, insbesondere in Alkoholen, löslich und reagiert heftig mit Wasser, wobei Methanol freigesetzt und Natriumhydroxid gebildet wird. Diese Verbindung wird häufig in der organischen Synthese verwendet, insbesondere bei der Herstellung von Biodiesel durch Transesterifizierungsreaktionen sowie bei der Vorbereitung verschiedener organischer Zwischenprodukte. Sie wird auch bei der Deprotonierung schwacher Säuren und als Katalysator in bestimmten Reaktionen eingesetzt. Aufgrund ihrer starken Basizität muss Natriummethoxid mit Vorsicht behandelt werden, da sie schwere chemische Verbrennungen verursachen kann und reaktiv mit Feuchtigkeit und Säuren ist.
