K252a is a neurotrophic drug that enhances dopamine function. It binds to the dopamine receptor subtype D3 and inhibits spontaneous motor activity in mice. K252a also has the effect of reducing hyperactivity, which is induced by amphetamine, and it reduces locomotor activity in animals. The effects of K252a are antagonized by haloperidol and other D2 antagonists. Human studies have shown that k252a can be used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, although its effects on humans are not as potent as those observed in animals.
