2-Chloro-2-fluoro-1-methylcyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid is an aralkyl halogen with bactericidal, fungicidal and potassium permanganate properties. It is also used as a diluent for potassium permanganate. Potassium permanganate oxidizes 2-chloro-2-fluoro-1-methylcyclopropane-1 carboxylic acid to the corresponding hydroxyl compound, which reacts with alkoxy groups in the cell membrane to produce a cyclopropane ring. This reaction leads to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA replication.
