Hafniumtetrachlorid (HfCl4) ist eine anorganische Verbindung, die durch ihre weiße kristalline Feststoffform bei Raumtemperatur gekennzeichnet ist. Es handelt sich um eine kovalente Verbindung, die eine tetraedrische Molekülgeometrie aufweist. Hafniumtetrachlorid ist hochlöslich in organischen Lösungsmitteln wie Benzol und Toluol, hat jedoch eine begrenzte Löslichkeit in Wasser. Es ist bekannt für seine hygroskopischen Eigenschaften, da es leicht Feuchtigkeit aus der Luft aufnimmt, was zu Hydrolyse und der Bildung von Hafniumoxychlorid führen kann.
