5-Amino-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid is a nonstandard amino acid that is found in some prokaryotes. It is synthesized from 5-aminoimidazole ribotide (5AI) and thiazole carboxylic acid in the ribosomes of prokaryotes. The genetic code for this amino acid can be found in the section of the genetic code called the appendix. 5-Amino-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid has been shown to have a number of bioactivities, including inhibition of protein synthesis, inhibition of RNA synthesis, and inhibition of DNA replication.
