This drug also has neuroprotective properties and has been shown to protect against excitotoxicity in vivo models. Sulfosuccinimidyl oleate sodium binds to microglia cells and human osteoblasts, where it inhibits uptake of glutamate, leading to reduced excitotoxicity.
