    Gamma-Amanitin is a cyclic peptide toxin, which is a secondary metabolite derived from several species of Amanita mushrooms, notably Amanita phalloides, commonly known as the death cap. This compound exhibits its mode of action by tightly binding to the RNA polymerase II enzyme, an essential enzyme in eukaryotic cells responsible for transcribing DNA into messenger RNA (mRNA). The binding of gamma-Amanitin to RNA polymerase II effectively halts mRNA synthesis, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and ultimately cell death.
