2-Amino-1H-1,3-benzodiazole-4-carbonitrile (ABDC) is a synthetic molecule that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their ribosomes. It was shown to be more potent than other drugs against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. ABDC binds to the ribosomal A site by forming hydrogen bonds with the amide group on its surface. This drug also has good bioavailability and can be administered orally or intravenously.
