    Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that is used to treat erectile dysfunction. The compound is not considered hazardous and does not have any known environmental effects. It is primarily metabolized by the liver and excreted in urine. Metabolites are inactive and do not contribute to the pharmacological effect of sildenafil. Sildenafil has been detected in wastewater, although at very low concentrations due to its high water solubility.
