7-Hydroxy-4H,5H,6H,7H-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazin-4-one is a hydrolysis product of pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid. It can be prepared by the reaction of 7-(hydroxymethyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazine with hydrogen chloride gas in methanol. This compound has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of pyrazine dehydrogenase and an effective inhibitor of the growth of bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin.
