Applications Dimesna (Mesna EP Impurity D) reacts with acrolein and other urotoxic metabolites of oxazaphosphorines (cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide) to form stable, non-urotoxic compounds. Mesna does not have any antitumour activity, nor does it appear to interfere with the antitumour activity of antineoplastic drugs. This medication is used to protect the bladder wall from the harmful effects of some cancer-fighting drugs.

CAS:Dimesna is a disulfide-containing, water-soluble sodium citrate that is used as an antioxidant and chemotherapeutic agent. Dimesna has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. It also has the ability to protect cells from cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Dimesna can be used for the treatment of solid tumours and diabetic neuropathy, but it does not have any significant effects on healthy cells. Dimesna is an active analogue of cisplatin and may be useful for treating patients with cisplatin-induced acute toxicities.
