5,6-Dehydro-tigecycline is a synthetic antibiotic that is used for the treatment of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. 5,6-Dehydro-tigecycline binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and blocks protein synthesis by inhibiting peptidyl transferase activity. This drug has been shown to be effective in treating methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. 5,6-Dehydro-tigecycline also inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex, although it is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
