1-(beta-D-Xylofuranosyl)uracil is a nucleoside analog that inhibits the polymerase of RNA and DNA. It can be used to study the process of transcription and replication, as well as the role of polymerases in these processes. 1-(beta-D-Xylofuranosyl)uracil binds to the polymerase, leading to inhibition of transcription and replication. This drug has also shown inhibitory effects against other enzymes involved in DNA synthesis, including uracil phosphoribosyltransferase. 1-(beta-D-Xylofuranosyl)uracil is chemically related to n-propylpyrimidinone, an inhibitor that was shown to inhibit the polymerases of both DNA and RNA at low concentrations.
