Eptifibatid ist ein synthetisches cyclisches Heptapeptid, das als potentes Antiplättchenmittel fungiert und hauptsächlich bei der Behandlung von akuten Koronarsyndromen und während perkutaner koronaren Interventionen eingesetzt wird. Es wirkt als reversibler Inhibitor des Glykoprotein-IIb/IIIa-Rezeptors auf Thrombozyten und verhindert so die Thrombozytenaggregation und die Bildung von Thromben. Eptifibatid wird aus dem Gift der südöstlichen pygmäen Klapperschlange gewonnen und zeichnet sich durch seine spezifische Bindungsaffinität zum Rezeptor aus, die für die Aktivierung der Thrombozyten entscheidend ist.
