The combination of 1-bromo-4-chloro-2-fluorobenzene with formaldehyde yields a synergistic effect. The inhibitory concentration for the growth of cereus and carbonation is 0.5% and 0.1%, respectively. It also shows antibacterial properties towards Gram positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. 1–Bromo-4–chloro–2–fluorobenzene inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase, which prevents transcription and replication.
