Acrylic anhydride has been shown to be reactive in the presence of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, which is an inorganic acid. This reaction produces a fatty acid as well as monoclonal antibodies for medical purposes. Acrylic anhydride can also react with an inorganic acid to produce a dithiocarbamic compound. The activation energy for this reaction is between 41 and 45 kcal/mol, making it thermodynamically favorable when compared to the activation energy of other reactions (e.g., 16 kcal/mol).
