N-[(3R)-1-Benzylpyrrolidin-3-yl]-5,6-dimethylthieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-amine (BMS181172) is a potent inhibitor of the fatty acid synthase enzyme. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to decreased production of fatty acids and ultimately less fat in the body. BMS181172 has been shown to have antiobesity effects in animal models. It also inhibits acid synthase, which may have antihyperglycemic effects.
