Fumagillin

Fumagillin ist eine natürlich vorkommende antibiotische Verbindung, die ursprünglich aus dem Pilz Aspergillus fumigatus gewonnen wurde. Es ist hauptsächlich für seine Verwendung in der Tiermedizin bekannt, insbesondere zur Behandlung bestimmter parasitärer Infektionen bei Honigbienen, wie der Nosema-Krankheit. Fumagillin wirkt, indem es das Enzym Methionin-Aminopeptidase hemmt, das für die Proteinsynthese in anfälligen Organismen entscheidend ist. Diese Verbindung zeichnet sich durch ihr weiß bis schmutzig-weißes kristallines Aussehen aus und ist in organischen Lösungsmitteln wie Ethanol und Dimethylsulfoxid löslich, hat jedoch eine begrenzte Löslichkeit in Wasser.
