It has been shown to reduce ocular inflammation in rats and mice, with no effect on the cornea. Difluprednate is prepared as an aqueous solution containing benzalkonium chloride, which acts as a preservative. The medication can be used for short periods of time, but prolonged use may lead to bowel disease and polymerase chain reactions. Difluprednate has anti-inflammatory activity and can be used in place of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
