2-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol, allgemein bekannt als BHT (butyliertes Hydroxytoluol), ist eine organische Verbindung mit der chemischen Formel C10H14O. Es ist durch seine phenolische Struktur gekennzeichnet, die eine tert-Butylgruppe und eine Methylgruppe enthält, die an einen Benzolring gebunden sind. BHT ist bei Raumtemperatur ein weißer kristalliner Feststoff und ist bekannt für seine antioxidativen Eigenschaften, was es weit verbreitet als Lebensmittelkonservierungsmittel und in Kosmetika zur Verhinderung der Oxidation von Fetten und Ölen macht. Es ist in organischen Lösungsmitteln löslich, hat jedoch eine begrenzte Löslichkeit in Wasser.
