Mycophenolsäure ist eine organische Verbindung mit der chemischen Formel C17H20O6 und wird als selektiver Immunsuppressivum klassifiziert. Es wird hauptsächlich aus dem Pilz Penicillium gewonnen und ist bekannt für seine Rolle bei der Hemmung des Enzyms Inosinmonophosphat-Dehydrogenase (IMPDH), das entscheidend für den de novo-Syntheseweg von Purinnukleotiden ist. Dieser Mechanismus macht es besonders effektiv bei der Verhinderung von Organtransplantatabstoßung und der Behandlung von Autoimmunerkrankungen.
