CAS:3-Methyl-4-nitrophenol (3MP) is a metabolite that is formed in the body by the oxidation of 3-methylphenol. It has been shown that 3MP binds to cyclin D2, an important protein for cell cycle progression, and inhibits its activity, which may lead to cell death. 3MP also inhibits the enzyme activities of cytochrome P450 and nitroreductase, which are responsible for the synthesis of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a pro-apoptotic protein that can cause liver cells to undergo apoptosis or programmed cell death. The binding of 3MP to these enzymes leads to the inhibition of NO production and subsequent reduction in cellular proliferation. This compound also has strong adsorption properties due to intramolecular hydrogen bonding or matrix effect, which may be useful as an analytical reagent in analytical chemistry.
