CAS:2-Ethylbenzofuran is a benzofuran derivative that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of acid transport. It is effective in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as hyperchloremic acidosis. 2-Ethylbenzofuran inhibits the action of calcium carbonate by binding to the active site on rat liver microsomes. This binding prevents the formation of an enzyme-inhibitor complex with polyvinyl chloride, which is required for dibutyl acylation reaction and acidolysis. The drug also blocks acid transporter activity, which may be due to its ability to induce demethylation and inhibit calcium carbonate from forming an enzyme-inhibitor complex with polyvinyl chloride.
