L-Glutamic acid di-tert-butyl ester hydrochloride is a substrate for many enzymes, such as glutamate transporters and glutaminase, which are found in tumor cells. It has been shown to decrease the uptake of docetaxel by tumor xenografts in mice. The expression of L-Glutamic acid di-tert-butyl ester hydrochloride has been observed in tissues during cancerous growth and it is expressed at higher levels than in normal tissues.
