1-Benzyl-6-oxopiperidine-3-carboxylic acid is a diastereomeric, intramolecular, efficient, functionalized primary amine. It is synthesized from the reaction of cyclohexanone and benzaldehyde in the presence of a base. The amine group is subsequently converted to an acid chloride with thionyl chloride and then reacted with 1,2-diaminocyclohexane. The product can be used as a precursor for other compounds.
