3-Trifluoromethylbutyric acid is a synthetic compound that has been studied as a potential drug for the treatment of dyslipidemia. 3-Trifluoromethylbutyric acid binds to the enzyme phosphatase, which is a key regulator of lipid metabolism and controls the production of lipids in cells. This binding prevents the phosphatase from breaking down phosphoinositides, leading to an increase in the levels of phosphoinositides.
