It reacts with choline to form an intermediate that can be converted into an active drug by hydrogen bonding to a nucleophile such as chloride or amines. 3-Cyano-1,2,4-triazole has been used in the synthesis of HIV drugs and other compounds that are designed to inhibit viral replication. The process of absorption starts at the mouth and continues through the digestive system into the bloodstream. 3-Cyano-1,2,4-triazole is absorbed from this process and transported to different parts of the body where it can act on its target cells.
