6-Methyl-3-(β-D-2-deoxyribofuranosyl)furano-[2,3-d]pyrimidin-2-one is a novel nucleoside analog that has been modified to contain an antiviral agent. It is phosphorylated at the 2' position to form a monophosphate. This compound is a potent inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase and human DNA polymerases α and β.
