The compound is oxidized to 2,3-dihydroxybicyclo[2.2.1]heptane carboxylic acid, which reacts with sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen gas to form 2,3-dihydroxybicyclo[2.2.1]heptane 1,4-oxazepine 4,5-dicarboxylic acid and hydrogen chloride gas.
