Lysyl-glutamic acid has also been shown to inhibit epidermal growth factor and activate tissue culture cells. This drug has also been shown to be carcinogenic in humans and animals, but not in vitro. It is metabolized by hydrolysis to lysine and glutamic acid. The chemical structures of lysyl-glutamic acid are very similar to those of the amino acids lysine and glutamic acid.
