Chenodesoxycholsäure (CDCA) ist eine Gallensäure, die eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Verdauung und Absorption von Nahrungsfetten und fettlöslichen Vitaminen im Darm spielt. Es handelt sich um ein weißes bis off-white kristallines Pulver, das in Wasser und organischen Lösungsmitteln wie Ethanol und Methanol löslich ist. CDCA wird in der Leber aus Cholesterin synthetisiert und ist eine primäre Gallensäure, was bedeutet, dass sie direkt aus Cholesterin produziert wird, anstatt von anderen Gallensäuren abgeleitet zu werden. Ihre chemische Struktur weist einen Steroidkern mit Hydroxylgruppen an spezifischen Positionen auf, was zu ihrer amphipathischen Natur beiträgt, die es ihr ermöglicht, Fette zu emulgieren.
